Jesus is "the Chief Shepherd" (1 Pet. 5.4), and “the head of the body, the church...” (Col 1.18)!
. . . through elders
Elders are fellow sheep who serve as under-shepherds of the Chief Shepherd, Jesus (1 Pet 5.1-4).
. . . with vital congregational involvement
The congregation is to have real involvement in the affairs of the church (implied in Matt 18.17-18; modeled in Acts 6.1-6).
NOTE: Our governance is detailed in full in our "BOOK OF CHURCH ORDER" (click to download).
Steve Farrington (elder / treasurer) – Steve and Sharon enjoy an affectionate marriage, and their three adult children and one teen. Steve is an accountant and financial planner who serves as one of our elders. They are San Diego natives, who love San Diego and Grace Church. You can often find them hosting people in their home and enjoying friends and family. Steve and Sharon have led small groups for years, but are currently taking a break from doing so. However, Steve also oversees the church's finances and budget.
Tim Liddell (elder) - Tim is one of our newer elders, though he and his wife Linda have been coming to this church since its inception. Tim and Linda are a fun-loving couple, who excel at hospitality - which is probably why the home group they lead is so popular! They have two grown boys, now men, and two daughter-in-laws.
Josh Morgan (elder) - Josh is one of our newer elders. He and his wife Dona have three young girls, and they are a vital part of our church. They lead one of our home groups, and Josh also serves as an assistant pastor (part-time) providing immediate oversight to many aspects of our Sunday services. Josh also holds an M.A. degree in Theological Studies from Southern Seminary.
Marshall Narveson (elder) – Marshall has been married to Janice for over 30 years, and they have six adult children. Marshall enjoyed a first career in the U.S. Navy and now is employed by a government contractor, and Janice is a full-time German teacher. They are hard-working folks originally from Wisconsin farm country, who now serve diligently to bless many others. As one of our elders, Marshall provides leadership to our high school youth ministry.
Tab Trainor (elder / lead pastor) – Tab and Sung have been married since 1997, and they enjoy their marriage and four children very much. Sung is originally from Korea, and Tab has lived in a variety of places - though he's a proud "gaucho" of UCSB. Tab has been in full-time pastoral ministry since 1998, when he planted a church in the suburbs of Chicago. In 2012, Tab and Sung were sent out from that church to help start this church. Tab is currently enrolled in a Master's Degree program through Reformed Theological Seminary. They enjoy running and swimming, and lead our small group in the Fletcher Hills area of La Mesa.
